Rainbows are magical. There are pots of gold at the ends of them. Dorothy went over the rainbow to the Land of Oz. And Kermit the Frog sang about a “Rainbow Connection”. Biblically, it is a symbol from God that he will not destroy the world via water. Who doesn’t like a good rainbow?
I thought about all the books with rainbows on the covers, and I came across an old young adult favorite. John Green’s An Abundance of Katherines.

Colin, the main character, has a definite type when it comes to girls. He only dates girls named Katherine. One might think that he would have given up on his type after being dumped nineteen times.
What I loved about this particular book is the braininess of the characters. I love that Colin has a Theorem of Underlying Katherines Predictability. I love that he talks about anagrams. I also loved how vulnerable Colin is. It is a different perspective reminding young girls that you are not the only one going through the craziness of being a teen.
