We have all heard the old adage that laughter is the best medicine. This is usually said at the worst of times – when the last thing you want to do is have a good giggle with friends. But according to Nuvance Health, it just may be the best medicine you can give your body when facing serious health issues. Laughing increases your intake of oxygen-rich air and improves your circulation. Healthy blood flow to the brain can lower your risk of Alzheimer’s disease, memory loss and depression. Laughing also increases the production of endorphins – a natural painkiller and stress reducer. This can reduce your stress response, blood pressure and heart rate. Watching one 30 minute comedic sitcom can vastly improve your health. Reading a funny book must also have a calming effect.
I have always loved the comediennes Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. Their stints on Saturday Night Live definitely shaped my sense of humor. So I must recommend their funny memoirs.
Amy Poehler’s Yes, Please

Poehler shares her story of breaking into comedy in this book filled with funny quips about life and realizing your dreams.
Tina Fey’s Bossypants

Tina has two reoccurring dreams. One is her middle school physical education is chasing her through a airport. The second on is she will be a comedienne on television. She has seen both come true.
Both are great, short reads that are good for more than one laugh.
