Do aliens exist?

Since the Roswell Incident in 1947, Americans have become fascinated with idea of saucers defying the laws of physics and little green men. Sightings and alien abduction stories rose and peaked during the days of the Cold War. The creation of Area 51 in 1955 also fanned rumors of reverse engineering.

According to to a YouGov article written in June 2021, as many as three in five people believe in the possibility of intelligent life on other planets. And 65% of Americans believe that the government has actively deceived citizens by not sharing all the know about UFOs or UAPs. Are we ready for the truth?

All of this conjecture about aliens has inspired some of the best science fiction. Consider reading the following:

H. G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds

Shortly after witnessing a shooting star emerging from Mars, a cylinder is found in London. The first group of humans approach the cylinder armed only with a white flag, and they are fried by a heat ray as tentacled invaders emerge from the cylinder. They make quick work of the London population, but the humans regroup and put up a fight.

Arthur C. Clarke’s Childhood’s End

The Overlords appear over every major city in the world. They are far superior the human beings, and the humans instantly give up their power. The Overlords make some demands of the humans that take away the drive of man to constantly try to better themselves. The people who resist the Overlords’ demands know they have a different agenda than the benevolent beings they are pretending to be. Will the Overlords bring about the end of man?

Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles

This novel is about man’s multiple attempts to colonize Mars. But as man becomes more plentiful on the red planet, they start to commit the same mistakes they made when the colonize Africa and the New World.

Rick Yancey’s The 5th Wave

Cassie Sullivan runs from the beings who look human but kill anyone they encounter. She adopts the belief that to survive you must do it alone. But that is only until she encounters Evan Walker. Cassie has to learn to trust Evan if she is going to stay alive and have a chance at rescuing her brother.

Stephenie Meyer’s The Host

Earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of the human hosts while leaving their bodies completely intact. But these species sometimes meet resistance, especially if the humans refuse to relinquish their minds. Such is case of Melanie. She fills Wanderer’s mind (the invading soul) with images of Jared. Wanderer eventually develops feelings for Jared, and together the two set off to find him.

Happy reading to our alien lovers!
